TERRACE
Waterproofing of terraces can be complex due to constant exposure to variable weather conditions, terrace gardens, foot traffic etc. These issues often result in damp patches on ceilings as well as weakening of roof slabs and concrete. It is thus imperative that we secure the area with proper waterproofing solutions.
SOME OF THE CRITICAL PARAMETERS IMPACTINGSOME OF THE CRITICAL PARAMETERS IMPACTINGSELECTION OF SUITABLE SYSTEM FOR WATERPROFFINGOF TERRACES & ROOFS ARE:
– Accessibility – it defines exposure to wear and tear n Slope & Exposure – This parameter considers the terrace profile and UVrays resistance capability of the material
PITCH MODIFIED PU WITH SCREED
APPLICATION METHODOLOGY
Substrate Preparation
The concrete surface should be levelled, tough and should not have hollow areas or pot holes, Check hollowness by hammering and repair such areas as well as pot holes using polymer modified cement sand mortar. Allow to cure for at least 72 hours before application. Clean surface so that it is free from loose dust, particles, oil etc. by broom or vaccum cleaner.
Crack filling
All non-movement structural cracks and expansion joints should be filled and sealed with Smart Care PU Sealant as per recommended application procedure and site specifications.
Application
Asian Paints SmartCare FlexiSeal PU should be applied with the help of brush, roller, trowel or rubber squeegee. It is recommended to apply Asian Paints SmartCare Flexi Seal PU in the thickness of 1mm up to 2mm DFT (Dry Film Thickness) but not lower. Two coats are recommended on uneven and joint surfaces to minimize the possibility of thin patches, missed areas and pinholing. In the case of two-coats application, it is important to re-coat within 24 hours of the first coat becoming sufficiently cured and allow operator access.
Flood Test
After the application of Asian Paints SmartCare Flexi Seal PU the film should be allowed to cure for at least 72 hours prior to placement of protection, flood to a minimum depth of 50 mm of water for 24 hours. Drains shall be plugged and barriers placed to contain the water. Cleaning Aromatic hydrocarbon solvent should be used to clean equipment etc.
On curing and flood testing, Geotextile film of 200-250 GSM is loosely laid as speration layer. This system can now be covered by laying of PCC screed to slope.
SYSTEM FEATURES & BENEIFTS :
- Superior durability and thermal stability
- Forms a seamless and tough waterproof barrier Forms a seamless and tough waterproof barrier on curing
- Elongation of up to 600%
- Crack bridging ability (CBA) up to 2mm
PRODUCT RANGE :
- SmartCare Flexi Seal PU (20L)
ELASTOMERIC POLYURETHANE COATING
APPLICATION METHODOLOGY
Substrate Preparation
In general, the substrate must be dry (moisture content <4%), clean, free of grease, loose particles, dust etc. Any existing cavities in concrete should be filled with the Asian Paints SmartCare Repair Mortar in advance. Intense wide cracks on the substrate must be filled with the Asian Paints SmartCare Hybrid PU sealants. For Concrete, bituminous & porous substrate concrete, bituminous membranes or old waterproofing layers and other porous surfaces should be primed with SmartCare Epoxy Primer at a consumption of 150 – 200 g/m2.
Application
Before the application, it is recommended to slightly stir SmartCare PU Magnum, until it becomes homogeneous. Check the surface moisture, should be <4%. SmartCare PU Magnum is applied by brush or roller in 2 layers. The first layer is applied 2-3 hours after priming. The second layer should be applied crosswise after 8 – 24 hours, depending on the weather conditions. Application should be restricted to 0.5Kg/sqm per coat to avoid the blistering in the subsequent coat.
Consumption
Approx. 1.0 – 1.2 kg/m2, depending on the substrate.
SYSTEM FEATURES & BENEIFTS :
- Mechanical, chemical, thermal, UV and weather Mechanical, chemical, thermal, UV and weather resistance properties
- Uniform, elastic, without seams or joints
- Compatible to old layers of bitumen or EPDM
- Higher than 650% elongation
PRODUCT RANGE :
- SmartCare PU Magnum (20L)
- SmartCare Epoxy Primer-Hardener(15L)
- SmartCare Epoxy Primer-Resin (5L)
ELASTOMERIC LIQUID APPLIED ACRYLIC COATING WITH FIBERS
APPLICATION METHODOLOGY
Substrate Preparation
Allow new masonry surfaces to cure completely. Surface should be free from any loose paint, dust or grease. Remove all existing bitumen coatings. All cracks at corner joints, channels and parapets should be properly treated using SmartCare Crack Seal (up to 3mm) and bigger cracks with polymer modified cement. For glazed and smooth surfaces like china chip or tiles apply a single undiluted coat of SmartCare Terrace Tile Primer.
Horizontal Surfaces
Use water as a thinner with 33% dilution and apply single self-priming coat of SmartCare Damp Proof with a brush or roller and allow to dry for 4 – 6 hours. Apply 1st of undiluted SmartCare Damp Proof and allow to dry for 4 – 6 hours.
While the material is wet insert SmartCare Joint and Corner Tapes over the applied SmartCare Damp Proof and affix these by pushing with help of putty knife without damaging the tapes. Apply a 2nd coat of undiluted SmartCare Damp Proof and allow to dry for 4 – 6 hours
Protection
For in-accessible or light foot trafficable area insert a loosely laid Geotextile film of 200 – 250 GSM thickness as a separation layer over the cured SmartCare Damp Proof Film. Screed to slop (M20 grade, prepared with SmartCare Suprema Multi-Purpose Polymer to prevent cracks).
SYSTEM FEATURES & BENEIFTS :
- Ease of use, seamless coating
- Bridges cracks preventing water ingress
- Anti-carbonation Properties
- Protection up to 6 bars of positive pressure
- Highly reflective heat proof coating for Highly reflective heat proof coating for cooler interiors
- Fiber-reinforced film to handle moderate foot Fiber-reinforced film to handle moderate foot traffic
